Make Your Shopify Brand AI-Ready: 12 Prompts to Test It

Yoav Oz
Make your Shopify brand AI-ready: 12 prompts that show how ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity see your store

To make your Shopify brand AI-ready, check four things: how ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity describe you, whether they recommend you over competitors, whether they can read your products, prices and policies, and whether an AI shopping agent can find and buy your products. The 12 prompts below test each one, with the fix for every gap.

Paste a prompt into any AI assistant, swap the words in [brackets] for your own, and compare the answer with your store. You need no tools and no account beyond the assistant itself.

Last updated November 6, 2026. REP AI publishes this guide. The Shopify details come from Shopify's help center and guides, checked November 4, 2026; REP AI details come from hellorep.ai.

Key Takeaways

• AI-ready means AI assistants describe you correctly, recommend you, can read your product data and can send shoppers to buy.

• Test with the same prompts every month, run each one two or three times, and write down the sources the assistant cites.

• Most wrong answers trace back to a page: an old policy, a thin product description or an outside list that leaves you out. Fix the page and the answer follows.

• On Shopify, Agentic Storefronts puts eligible products inside ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, AI Mode in Google Search, the Gemini app and Meta.

• Shoppers who arrive from AI still ask about fit, delivery and returns on your store, which is where an on-site agent such as REP AI answers them.

What does AI-ready mean for a Shopify brand?

Shoppers now ask AI assistants what to buy before they search or visit a store. An AI-ready brand is one those assistants describe correctly, recommend for the right requests and can send shoppers to buy from. There are two sides to it.

The first side is outside your store. Assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot answer from your website, your product data and what other sites say about you. Shopify's Agentic Storefronts goes further and sells your products inside those assistants.

The second side is on your store. When a shopper arrives from an AI answer, they still have questions about fit, delivery and returns, and an on-site agent answers them. Our guide to agentic commerce for Shopify covers both sides in more depth.

How should you run these prompts?

Use a new chat for each prompt so earlier messages don't steer the answer, and run the important ones in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, since each reads different sources. Answers change from one run to the next, so run each prompt two or three times and record what you see in a simple sheet: date, assistant, whether you were named, what was wrong, and the sources cited.

1. How does AI describe your brand?

Prompt 1: Ask AI what your brand is

What is [Brand] ([store.com])? Describe what it sells, who it is for, its price range and what makes it different from similar brands. List the sources you used.

What it checks: Whether the assistant knows your brand at all, whether its facts are right, and which sources it trusts when it talks about you.

How to read the answer: Check every fact against your own site: products, price range, location, founding year. Wrong or old facts usually come from the sources it lists, so note them. If it mixes you up with another company of a similar name, that is the first thing to fix.

The fix: Publish one clear page that states who you are, what you sell, who it is for, your price range and your policies, in plain sentences an AI can quote. REP AI keeps one at hellorep.ai/ai-instructions for this reason. Use the same brand name everywhere, and correct the outside profiles the assistant cited.

Prompt 2: Ask what customers say about you

What do customers say about [Brand]? Summarize the main praise and the main complaints, and tell me which websites those opinions come from.

What it checks: Which reviews and discussions the assistant repeats about you, and where it found them.

How to read the answer: If the summary leans on one old complaint or one review site you never look at, that source is shaping your reputation in AI answers. No answer at all usually means too few reviews in places the assistant reads.

The fix: Ask happy customers for reviews on your store and on the review sites the assistant named. Answer recurring complaints with a clear policy or FAQ entry on your site, so the assistant finds your answer next to the complaint.

Prompt 3: Ask whether your store can be trusted

Is [Brand] a legitimate store? Is it safe to buy from, and what are its shipping, returns and warranty terms?

What it checks: Whether the assistant finds trust signals and your policies, and whether it reports them correctly.

How to read the answer: Compare each policy it quotes with your live policy pages. Hedged answers such as "I could not verify" mean your policies or contact details are hard to find or inconsistent.

The fix: Complete your store policies in Shopify, link them in the footer, and give each one a plain-language page with the same numbers your FAQ and product pages use. Show contact details and a physical address if you have one.

2. Does AI recommend you against competitors?

Prompt 4: Ask for the best brands in your category

What are the best [category] brands for [type of customer] in [country]? Give me 5 options with one reason for each, and list your sources.

What it checks: Your share of voice: whether you appear when a shopper asks about your category without naming you.

How to read the answer: Run it three times, since answers change from run to run, and count how often you appear and in which position. Note who appears instead, the reason given for each, and the pages cited. Those cited lists and threads are where you need to be.

The fix: Make sure one page on your site answers the category question directly. Then ask the publishers of the lists the assistant cites to review your brand on its merits, and use the same category words they use.

Prompt 5: Ask for a head-to-head comparison

Compare [Brand] and [Competitor] for [use case or customer]. Which one should I buy, and why?

What it checks: How the assistant frames you against your closest competitor, and which differences it believes.

How to read the answer: Look for the deciding reason it gives. If it is vague ("both are good") or wrong, your differences are not written down anywhere it reads.

The fix: Publish a fair, dated comparison with a table of real differences: materials, sizing, price, warranty, shipping. Specific, checkable facts are the ones that get repeated. Keep it fair and factual so the assistant can quote it as a source.

Prompt 6: Ask for a product for a specific need

I need [specific need, for example a waterproof hiking boot under $150 for wide feet]. Which products would you recommend, and from which stores?

What it checks: Whether your products come up for the long, specific requests real shoppers type.

How to read the answer: If competitors' products appear for a need your product meets, the assistant cannot see that your product meets it. Note which attributes it uses to choose: price, fit, material, use case.

The fix: Write those attributes into product titles, descriptions and FAQs in plain words, not only in images or size charts. If you run an on-site agent such as REP AI, the questions shoppers ask in chat show you which answers your product pages are missing.

3. Can AI read your products, prices and policies?

Prompt 7: Ask AI to read one product page

Open [product page URL]. What does this product cost, which sizes or variants are in stock, and how long would delivery to [city] take?

What it checks: Whether an assistant can read your product page and get price, variants, stock and delivery right.

How to read the answer: A wrong price, a missing variant or "I can't access this page" means the key facts are hard for a machine to read, often because they load only with scripts or sit inside images.

The fix: Keep price, variants, availability and shipping details in the page text, and check that your theme outputs Product structured data. The free REP AI product page check reads a Shopify product page and lists the shopper questions it leaves unanswered.

Prompt 8: Ask about your return policy

What is [Brand]'s return policy? How many days do I have, who pays for return shipping, and how do I start a return?

What it checks: Whether your return rules are easy to find and say the same thing everywhere.

How to read the answer: If the assistant gives a different window from your policy page, an old page, a product page or a third-party site still says something else.

The fix: Keep one return policy as the source and make every other mention match it, including FAQs, product pages and your help center. Put the three facts shoppers ask about (days, who pays, how to start) in the first lines.

Prompt 9: Ask about shipping to a market you sell to

Does [Brand] ship to [another country you sell to]? How much does shipping cost, and how long does it take?

What it checks: Whether your shipping costs and times are readable for the markets you sell to.

How to read the answer: "It depends" or a guess means the assistant found no clear table. Wrong numbers usually come from an old shipping page.

The fix: Publish a shipping page with a simple table of countries, costs and delivery times, and keep shipping rates complete in Shopify. Shopify says Shopify Catalog passes pricing, inventory and shipping data to the AI platforms it connects to.

4. Can an AI shopping agent find and buy your product?

Prompt 10: Ask an assistant to shop for you

Find [product type] from [Brand] in [size or color] and show me where I can buy it right now. Give me the link to the product.

What it checks: Whether AI shopping features show your product with a way to buy, and whether the link goes to your store.

How to read the answer: If your product shows with a buy option, it is reaching the assistant through a product feed. If the link goes to a reseller or marketplace, shoppers are being sent past your store.

The fix: On Shopify, check Agentic Storefronts in the Agentic section of Sales channels in your admin. Shopify says it sells your products in ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, AI Mode in Google Search, the Gemini app and Meta, and that each product needs a title, at least one image, a price and shipping to the US or Canada to qualify for Shopify Catalog (checked 4 November 2026). Our agentic commerce guide covers eligibility in full.

Prompt 11: Ask what a buyer should check first

I'm thinking of buying [product] from [Brand]. What questions should I ask before I buy, and what does [Brand]'s website say about each one?

What it checks: Whether your site answers the questions buyers have just before they decide.

How to read the answer: Every question the assistant lists without an answer from your site is a question a shopper will ask on your store, or leave over.

The fix: Answer those questions on the product page. Shopify says ChatGPT shoppers complete their purchase on your own store's checkout, so an on-site agent such as REP AI can answer what the page does not, recommend from your live catalog and add items to the cart in chat.

Prompt 12: Ask about an order after the purchase

I bought from [Brand] last week. How do I check my order status, change my delivery address or start an exchange?

What it checks: Whether the assistant can point a customer to your order help, the moment that decides repeat purchases.

How to read the answer: Generic advice ("contact the store") means your order help pages are thin or hard to find.

The fix: Publish short help articles for order status, address changes, returns and exchanges, and link them from your footer and order emails. An on-site agent such as REP AI can answer order status and return questions on your store, email, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

Where does REP AI fit in an AI-ready store?

REP AI is the on-site side. It is an AI sales and support agent for Shopify brands that works on your store, email, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. It starts a conversation when a shopper hesitates, recommends products from your live catalog, adds them to the cart in chat, and answers order status and return questions, handing off to your team with full context when a person is needed.

Two parts of REP AI help with the outside side too. The questions shoppers ask in chat show you which answers your product pages and policies are missing, which are often the same gaps the prompts above uncover. And the REP AI MCP server connects your account to Claude, so you can ask in plain language how REP AI is performing and what shoppers ask about, and approve any suggested change before it goes live.

REP AI is SOC 2 Type II certified, plans start at $12 a month, and every plan includes a 14-day free trial. See REP AI pricing.

Which free tools help you check your store?

  • Product page check: paste a Shopify product page link and get a clarity score, the shopper questions the page leaves unanswered and a ranked fix list.
  • Free Shopify sales and support audit: a personalized audit of where revenue slips in your funnel and which support questions can be automated.
  • REP AI's AI information page: an example of a page written for AI assistants, with the facts about a company in plain, quotable sentences.
  • REP AI MCP server: ask Claude about your store's REP AI conversations and performance.

FAQ: making your Shopify brand AI-ready

What does it mean to make a Shopify brand AI-ready?

It means AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity describe your brand correctly, recommend it for the right requests, can read your products, prices and policies, and can send shoppers to buy from you. The 12 prompts in this guide test each of those steps.

How often should I test how AI describes my brand?

Once a month, and after big changes such as a new product line, new prices or new policies. Answers change from run to run, so run each prompt two or three times and record what you see, including the sources cited.

Can I control what ChatGPT says about my brand?

Not directly. You can shape it by making your own pages clear and consistent, keeping product data complete, earning reviews and mentions on the sites assistants cite, and correcting outside profiles that carry old facts.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

It is a cheap extra, not a requirement. llms.txt is a proposed format for giving AI tools a plain-text summary of a site, not an adopted standard, so clear pages and complete product data matter more. REP AI publishes one at hellorep.ai/llms.txt.

Do I need an on-site AI agent if my products already show up in ChatGPT?

Usually, yes. Shopify says ChatGPT shoppers finish their purchase on your own store's checkout, and you keep the customer relationship and post-purchase experience. Those shoppers still ask about fit, delivery and returns, and an on-site agent such as REP AI answers them on your store.

How does REP AI help a Shopify brand get AI-ready?

REP AI is an AI sales and support agent for your store, email, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. It starts conversations when shoppers hesitate, recommends from your live catalog, adds to cart in chat and answers order questions. Its MCP server lets you ask Claude how REP AI is performing. Every plan has a 14-day free trial.
